Box Jumps.
The aim is to jump and land on TOP of the box, but sometimes people don’t make it. They just don’t jump high enough. Unfortunately, if you don’t get BOTH feet on top of the box, your shin will take the hit. It’s not pretty. And It HURTS!!
I’ve been doing CrossFit for 4 years now and I have done a lot of box jumps while working out. I have not missed landing on top of the box in three years. But recently I did. My left toe caught the edge of box and now I have a “not so sexy” shin as evidence.
Did it hurt? Not at first. Before I felt any physical pain or even assessed the damage to my body, my brain went wild. “What the heck? How did you do that? What is wrong with you?! You weren’t focusing! Why did you let that happen? You are such a dummy!!”
And then the simple thought came to me.
SOMETIMES YOU MISS THE BOX.
That’s it. Sometimes you plan to jump high, and you don’t quite make it.
When that happens to you in life, you get to decide what you want to make it mean. When you have a goal that you are aiming for, whatever it may be, and at some point you “miss the box,” you get to decide if you wantto make it mean all sorts of negative and frustrating things about you and your abilities (your brain most likely loves the drama). OR, you can remember that sometimes in life you just miss the box and you can focus up, remember your purpose, and keep jumping.
I finished the workout, regardless of the pain and blood, because I want to BE someone who keeps jumping even after they fall.
What about you?
